In a move that should surprise absolutely no one, Paramount and Spyglass Media announced earlier today that they have greenlit a 6th installment in the Scream series. Following a massive box office success (grossing over $100 million in just the first three weeks of release), Scream 2022 has proven to be the Spider-Man: No Way Home of the horror genre.

Of the new movie, both studios had this to say:
“We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film. We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie & Guy and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family.”
Prior to Scream (2022), the creative trio known as Radio Silence was most famous in the horror genre for 2019’s Ready or Not. Their darkly comedic approach to the 2022 film was praised by critics and fans. And they remain the only people to direct a Scream film, other than Wes Craven, which will remain true as they do the new film.
Spoiler Ahead for Scream (2022) – You’ve Been Warned
While nothing is known about the plot at this point, we can assume that sister duo Tara and Sam as well as Randy’s niece Mindy will be returning. Unfortunately this will also be the first movie without Dewey, unless they do the same they did for Randy in Scream 3 and feature David Arquette in some sort of flashback scene.

It’s unclear whether Gale or Sidney will even return, given now the last movie very much passed the baton to the next generation. All we know for sure is that the almighty dollar proves to be the highest authority in Hollywood, and as long as they keep making money, Paramount will never stop. We can just hope that the movies themselves remain just as good as the ones that came before!
What do you think of a 6th Scream movie? Are you excited for the franchise to continue or do you think that it goes against the whole message of Scream (2022) of the killers dying in anonymity? Let us know in the comments!
