Well Scream 6 just got a whole lot less interesting. Following the massive success that was Scream (2022), it was no surprise that Paramount couldn’t resist continuing a series that openly mocked requels and the countless new sequels that they spawn…
After an official statement from the actress herself, Neve Campbell confirmed that she would not be reprising the role of Sidney Prescott:
“Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film….As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream…I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
She then added, “It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years”

Shortly after the announcement of this sixth installment, Paramount announced the return of legacy cast member Courteney Cox, along with Scream (2022) survivors Jenna Ortega, Mellisa Barrera, and Jasmin Savoy Brown, as well as Scream 4 fan favorite Hayden Panetteire as Kirby (a character whose fate had been left ambiguous).
For weeks, fans speculated as to whether or not the franchise’s primary lead would be returning, and after alleged comments made at a convention and this official statement, it seems that the disappointing news is true. This was a series that always thrived on its meta analysis of remakes and requels (especially the last two films), but we always had the legacy trinity to return.

Scream 6 will mark the first time that two of the three of them (for spoiler reasons) will not be returning. For many, Neve Campbell was the heart and soul of these films and it will honestly be difficult to imagine a Scream film without her. The same was said about Wes Craven, but Scream (2022) managed to capture lightning in a bottle.
Given that movie’s own opinion towards unnecessary sequels, it would have been the perfect high note to end the series on. With this most recent development, the anticipation is most likely going to diminish…
