Patrick Wilson Returning to Star in and Direct “Insidious 5” – Releasing July 2023

After years of rumors, it’s actually happening!

It’s been 4 years since we traveled to The Further, and nearly a decade since we last heard from the Lambert family.  But Sony Pictures just announced that on July 7, 2023 all will be returning with the release of
Insidious 5!

Thus far we know that Patrick Wilson and Ty Simpkins will be returning as Josh and Dalton Lambert, respectively.  And that this new story will be set 10 year after the events of Insidious: Chapter 2, which was the last time we’ve seen these characters.  Following two prequels, it’s both refreshing and intriguing to get a new entry that moves forward in time.

Insidious 1
Admittedly, it was probably a mistake to kill off Elise at the end of the first film. As a result, the 3rd and 4th ones had to be prequels if they wanted to feature her alive.

But Patrick Wilson isn’t just reprising his role of Josh, he’s also making his directorial debut with the horror sequel.  After already proving himself with solid performances in the first two movies, as well as three Conjuring films (and one Annabelle cameo), it definitely feels like the right time for Wilson to take on this new role and make a new mark in the horror community!

On directing, Wilson said the following:
“I’m honored and thrilled to be at the helm of the next Insidious installment, which will provide an amazing chance to unpack everything the Lamberts went through a decade ago, as well as deal with the consequences of their choices,” Wilson said in a statement back in 2020. “Directing the movie is both professionally and personally a full circle moment for me, and I am extremely grateful to be entrusted in continuing to tell this frightening and haunting story. Into the further we go…”

No word yet on whether Rose Byrne would be back as Renai or if we’ll see Lin Shaye’s Elise back in ghost form, or either of her nerdy assistants (one of which was of course played by series co-creator Leigh Whannell).  But it’s exciting to see this franchise continue!

It wouldn’t be the same without her.

Insidious 5 is due out in theaters July 7, 2023!
